Crashing Sucks

Yesterday I had to go pick up a co-worker who crashed a Honda  CBR600RR on the way to work. He was OK but it got me thinking.

Crashing definitely sucks and when riding remember to never let your guard down. All it takes is a split second.

1. Some friends and I were riding back from an evening ride from Jacksonville, FL to Gainesville, on a back road, a few days ago (10/18).

One friend of mine and I were out in front, and stopped to wait on a buddy who was riding two-up, and more cautious. Not 4 seconds after they passed by, and we pulled out to catch up, I caught light and ate pavement...

Turns out, I hit a deer.

While this road is notorious for deer (To the locals), we'd not seen any, any time we'd traveled it.

I tumbled in excess of 40 yards, and came to rest against a guard-rail.

While the Icon gloves, HJC Helmet and (borrowed) Icon Victory jacket did their jobs, all were pretty well destroyed. Thus, my head, hands and torso were pretty well protected...

My FEET, however, were not so well protected.

n my rush to walk out the door, I neglected to put on appropriate shoes (as I don't own a pair of riding boots), and merely slid on a pair of skate-shoes, in their absence. My feet, shins, knees and thighs sustained over 30% injury; including badly skinned toes, ankles and my right heel.

Relearning how to walk sucks, and I STRONGLY recommend all of you to wear the appropriate gear and BE CAREFUL on roads that you're not familiar with.

Ride within your own limits and use good judgment when riding ALL the time. Taking an appropriate MSF course is ALWAYS a good idea, for the daily rider, and everyone can benefit from this class. < JaxSB.Com "We Know People" >
