Mark your calendars and dust off your old bike because June 15 is National Ride To Work Day! That's right, lets team together to clear the roads, conserve fuel and show our support for the sport.
Here's a copy of the text from the LA Examiner
" It's never too early to plan, although not much planning is required if you own your own motorcycle, or can borrow one. Monday June 15th, 2009, is scheduled as the 19th annual "Ride To Work" day.
According to the US Census and the DOT, Americans clamber into more than 80 million cars and light trucks for their daily commutes to work. Only about 200,000 of us are smart enough to use motorcycles and scooters for regular commuting, even though some 8 million motorcycles and scooters are registered and available for the ride.
Ride To Work Day is a powerful way to help show those poor fools in their 4-wheelers how much better commuting gets on half the number of wheels. We know, and we can help them recognize, that taking the bike to work instead of the car is more economical, efficient and socially responsible. It also saves energy, improves the environment, and reduces the overall traffic load on our streets, highways, and parking areas. Not to mention it's a heck of a lot more interesting, stimulating, and fun!
Maybe with two months notice you can get your employer to set aside a special area for parking motorcycles on June 15th, or sponsor a free lunch or a company picnic for everyone who comes in on two wheels -- as a reward for, you know, helping the planet.
