Living with the 2009 Yamaha R6

Yamaha R6 daily upkeep

Now that I finally moved out of my tiny dump of an apartment and into something a bit nicer with a garage I can commute on the R6.

Though my ride to and from work is only 10 miles each way, I'm still loving it! Everything has been great, the bike is fast, agile and gets over 40 mpg if I stay out of it.

Today when I got to work I decided it was time to grease my chain. When greasing a chain you want to make sure the chain is hot, like after a ride. This way the O-rings and the metal has expanded and will absorb the grease into the nooks and crannies.

Another rule of thumb for greasing chains is "little and often," which means avoid drenching the chain but grease it every couple hundred miles. It had been roughly 500 so it was time.

I used some Golden Spectro chain wax because the wax solidifies as it dries, which means it wont sling everywhere making a huge mess.
