Well, as with the nature of modding your bike I'm waiting on a few parts for my 2009 Yamaha R6 so I grabbed Motorcyclist Magazine's Honda CRF230M for the ride home last night...
...And while completely different from my R6, it was still pretty fun. As you'd guess, power from the 223cc single is anemic compared to my norm, but paired with the 6-speed it's enough to scoot around town.
Fuel mileage is above 90 mpg, it's lightweight at a tick over 250 lbs and when the traffic got bad, I just hopped on the curb! However, once you move out to pass you're committed for a few seconds, unlike a bigger bike which is in and out of a driver's life in a flash.
Overall it's a nice in-town commuter, just don't try to win any drag races or take this bad dog on the freeway for any length of time.
