the joy of commuting on a motorcycle.
My 2009 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R has some track focused Pirelli Supercorsa SP tires on it, and though a little dampness is no problem this morning's drenched highways raised some mild concern initially...not much, mind you, but a sliver.
Tires are so good these days that I'm confident even a track tire can handle a liter bike in the rain. And the Supercorsa SPs did just fine. I only had one moment on the freeway at about 90 mph when I had a brief hydroplane, but that was through standing water and any tire would have reacted the same.
I took it easy around my favorite right hand on-ramp, but at the exit put the throttle on the stop to see how quick the rear would break loose. It didn't. Instead, it picked the front tire up. That about says it all right there.
Now for the funny part. SoCal drivers panic when anything wet lands on their horrendous highways. Even splash from another car's windshield wiper fluid sends some people into fits. So you can imagine the gridlock this morning in the rain. Add to that the fact that a lot of greater LA's traffic light grid was dead and you can't even believe the congestion.
Sucks for them...I'm on a bike! Thanks Kawi.
