Old Skool vs New School

something old, something new, old motorcycle vs new

As I returned to my '09 Yamaha R6 after leaving it in the parking lot at the LA Calendar Bike show I was greeted to a special treat. Someone had parked their black/white/red '99 R6 next my new ride.

Not only was it cool to see just how far we've come in 10 years but how similar they still are. The owner also had similar modifications but they were more period to the bike (at least most of them).

The R6 still sports the center intake and split headlights which is cool. Compare the similar mods like: the flushmounts, slip-ons, rotors, windscreens and sliders...all the same just more akin to '99 (save for the Galfer rotors).

So if you're thinking about selling your old bike to upgrade, how about saving it so you'll have something old skool to still cruise around...but still get the new one! Sure it isn't cutting edge or the fastest on the block but the patina an older bike carries is irreplaceable.

However, check the new R6 because they're bada$$
