What's the point?

Half Helmets

 I see plenty of riders every day rocking the half helmet...

 Can somebody explain why? They're cold, you get hit with bugs and debris, and if you crash you'll probably lose most of your face too.

So...why wear them? Seriously.

2. A few weeks ago on Thanksgiving I saw a guy pull up to the gas station on a Duc 1098S wearing a half helmet. Very strange. I don't see that too often.

3. it's like a bare minimun way to beat a helmet law i guess. I don't understand how a helmet that offers no protection can pass DOT inspection. Makes you wonder what exactly the standard is on a helmet.

IMO i'd feel pretty stupid if i was in an accident and was wearing one of those. I'd like to hear the opinion of a rider that uses one.
